In 1990, Dante received the prestigious Art of Peace Award from the Artist Embassy International for this sculpture, “Women’s Liberation,” which was chosen by the Oakland Art Commission as a gift to Nelson Mandela and the people of South Africa, and has been generously donated by a Montalvo donor to be included in this special auction. While a gemologist living and traveling in Brazil, Panama and Southeast Asia, Elizabeth Dante was captivated by the Third World, and her time there continues to inspire her work. By exaggerating the interplay of round, organic forms and sharp angles, her pieces create a sense of tension which is both lively and sensual.

Tonight, you’ll also take home four of their wines: 2018 Verdelho: The wine opens with fresh aromas of Fuji apple, lemon zest and kiwi. With time in the glass, a second wave of aromas appears: melon, pear, apricot and tropical notes of guava and mango - a multi-faceted wine for warm spring & summer afternoons and evenings. 2018 The Princess Rose: Fruit aromas are delicate and begin with strawberry, Bing cherry and roses, with hints of kiwi, pomegranate and lemon zest. Flavors of clove, spice and cinnamon notes coat the mouth, with subtle French oak nuances in the finish. 2015 La Reina: The black fruit aromas consist of blackberry, clove, nutmeg and allspice, with nuances of baker’s chocolate, licorice and cassis. Similar flavors follow the aromas including elderberry, currants and white pepper with subtle hints of French oak. Calafia’s wines come from a vineyard in Napa that has intentionally stayed “under the radar,” making fewer than 500 cases per year. Calafia Cellars is a “little-known gem” in Napa valley, whose wines are expertly crafted by Randle Johnson and his wife, MaryLee. Only 100 cases were produced of Calafia’s 2015 La Reina Cabernet Sauvignon. Aromas of warm clove, nutmeg, allspice and blackberry fill the nose while on the palate the wine is silky and nuanced with flavors of elderberry, currants, white pepper and subtle hints of French Oak. Sweet fine-grain tannins linger in the finish.
