GRAND PRIZE #2
Magnum of 2003 Château Léoville-Las Cases from the Saint-Julien appellation of Bordeaux, France
Chateau Leoville Las Cases is one of the largest and oldest classified growths in the Medoc region of France. The fruit is harvested by hand. The fermentation vessels include a fascinating mix of wooden, cement and stainless steel vats. When finished the wine is pumped to the barrel cellar. Wine Spectator has awarded the 2003 a 97, praising its "incredible nose of crushed berry, licorice, violets and lightly toasted oak. Pure crème de cassis. Full-bodied, with big, velvety tannins and a long, long finish."
